A 58-year-old man was in serious condition in hospital Wednesday after being thrown from a snowmobile while hunting coyotes in Ottawa's rural southern outskirts.
The man suffered head injuries at Cooper Hill Road between York's Corner and 9th Line Roads, east of Greely and north of Metcalfe, said an Ottawa Paramedic Service news release.
The resident of a nearby home witnessed the incident and called 911 around 11:15 a.m.
The snowmobiler was conscious at the scene, but his condition deteriorated while he was en route to hospital, the release said.
The City of Ottawa hired three trappers to deal with coyotes in the Greely area that have been blamed for killing pet dogs and cats.
One coyote was trapped in Greely on Jan. 7.
