5 charged after shooting outside Tim Hortons

Five men have been charged with attempted murder and other offences after a shooting outside a Tim Hortons coffee shop in Ottawa, police said Wednesday.
A man in his 20s was sent to hospital with serious injuries after the incident Monday night near Walkley and Conroy Roads, according to police. He remained in serious but stable condition on Wednesday.
The five accused have been jointly charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of proceeds of crime and possession for the purpose of trafficking, said an Ottawa police news release Wednesday.
The men were identified by police as:
- Abdulaziz Abdullah, 21, of Calgary.
- Yusuf Ibrahim, 20, of Ottawa.
- Hussein Mohammad, 21, of Ottawa.
- Mohamed Najdi, 20, of Ottawa.
- Ahmed Zalal, 21, of Ottawa.
The men were remanded into custody following a court appearance Wednesday and have a bail hearing scheduled for Friday.
Police confirm that Zalal is the brother of Mohamed Zalal, whose body was found in the summer of 2006 in a farmer's field. The 22-year-old had been beaten and then shot to death.
Police confirmed that Mohamed Zalal was associated with a gang from Ottawa's south-end, close to this latest shooting.
Police would not say whether Monday's incident was gang-related.
