Fire officials believe a candle in the living room may have started a fire that destroyed a home in western Quebec and damaged the home next door Wednesday night.

The seven occupants of the home on Pine Street in Aylmer managed to get out safely, said operations chief Daniel St-Jacques of the Gatineau fire department.

However, fire officials estimate the blaze caused $325,000 in damage.

A fire also damaged a six-apartment complex in the Mont-Bleu neighbourhood in Hull Wednesday afternoon, but all six units were empty at the time.
