A Mohawk crusader charged in relation to First Nations blockades in eastern Ontario this spring and summer has been freed on bail.

Shawn Brant was also ordered Thursday to stand trial on nine counts including mischief.

He's to return to court in Napanee, Ont., on Oct. 5.

Brant has been ordered not leave his home without police permission over the next 30 days, and not to participate in any demonstration or protest.

He is also barred from visiting a Deseronto quarry currently being occupied by his fellow protesters, the Belleville Intelligencer reported.

The judge said he doesn't believe Brant is a high risk to reoffend because bail of $100,000 — split between his mother Deanna Brant and family friend Winston Maracle  — would be lost if he breaches the conditions.
