A reward for information in the stabbing death of a Manitoba woman the Gatineau, Que., region has grown to more than $20,000, thanks to donations from the public, an Assembly of First Nations official says.
Most of the donations toward the reward fund — and an education fund for 27-year-old Kelly Morrisseau's three children — have come from people in the Gatineau-Ottawa region, said AFN communications officer Rene Pollett.
Crimestoppers offered the initial $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest, an amount the AFN matched last month.
Morrisseau, a pregnant mother of three children who spent most of her life in Manitoba, was stabbed in Gatineau Park, Que., across the river from Ottawa, in December. She died within an hour of being found, naked and bleeding in a park parking lot.
The reward money would be given by Crimestoppers "to whoever provided the information that led to an arrest," Pollet said. "The person who gives this information can remain anonymous throughout the entire process, it would never be known who they were."
The AFN is still collecting donations.
