Christmas gifts seized in fraud investigation

A 90-year-old Ottawa woman's home care worker has been charged with fraud after thousands of dollars in Christmas gifts and other items were charged to the senior's credit card at the beginning of December.
Police seized wrapped gifts, clothing, candles and other household items from the home care worker's residence on Thursday.
Ottawa police Sgt. Lynn Turnbull, who heads the department's elder abuse section, said the senior's daughter called police after the bank flagged some unusual transactions in her mother's account.
A 38-year-old woman who is the victim's personal care assistant has been charged with use of a stolen credit card, impersonation, fraud and possession of property obtained by theft.
A 21-year-old woman and a young person also face fraud-related charges.
