Ottawa police are searching for a man they describe as "armed and dangerous" following the fatal shooting of his sister early Tuesday.

Khatera Sadiqi, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene after she and her fiancé, 23-year-old Feroz Mangal, were shot as they sat in a parked car outside the Elmvale Acres Shopping Centre at about 1 a.m. ET.

Mangal was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds in his torso, neck, arm and thigh. He was in stable condition Thursday.

On Wednesday, police named Sadiqi's brother, 20-year-old Hasibullah Sadiqi, as the suspect in the shooting.

Const. Steven Desjourdy called on anyone who has spotted Sadiqi to contact Ottawa police.

Desjourdy also said police would like to hear "if you know where he's going, if you know his whereabouts, if you've had contact with him, if you've seen him in the last couple of days and if you know anything about his vehicle."

Police said Sadiqi drives a grey, two-door, 1992 Mazda 323.

They are not commenting on the possible motive for the crime.

Feroz Mangal's brother, Hameedullah Mangal, said Khatera Sadiqi and Feroz had been planning their wedding for the upcoming year before she was slain and he was seriously injured by gunfire.

"They just had plans for the future," he said, adding that those who knew his brother were distraught that something like this could happen to someone so nice and so charming

He said his brother was studying at Carleton University to become a police officer, but had taken a year off to save money for his wedding. Hameedullah Mangal added that Khatera Sadiqi was a sweet woman who planned to attend Algonquin College in the coming year.

"She was more like a sister to me than my brother's fiancée," he said.

Khatera Sadiqi worked briefly at a clothing store in Carlingwood Mall. Her manager, Jenny Jeffrey, said the young woman was gorgeous, both in looks and personality.

"She was fun. She was bubbly. She was pleasant, and it was just… It was a real shock that something could happen to somebody that's so young," she said.
