The City of Gatineau issued a boil water advisory Wednesday for Old Gatineau.
Residents should boil their tap water for at least a minute if they live in the area bounded by Rue Pointe-Gatineau, Rue Moreau, Rue St-Rosaire and La Baie Park.
City officials are asking businesses and schools in the area to restrict access to drinking fountains.
According to the City of Gatineau, water in the area failed the weekly water quality test required by Quebec legislation.
Officials say they do not know why.
Water from the same municipal source in other parts of the city was not affected.
The advisory will be in effect for at least two days.
In order for the advisory to be lifted, the water must pass two consecutive water quality tests within 48 hours.
