A Chelsea resident says he's found a pot-growing operation in Gatineau Park.
Jean-Paul Murray says he found about 60 plants during a walk near Chelsea Creek, off the north loop of the Gatineau Parkway.
Murray says the plants are on or near property once owned by Roderick Percy Sparks.
He says Sparks played a big role in the founding of Gatineau Park, though the NCC normally credits William Lyon MacKenzie King and Jacques Greber.
"This location is the hub of the park, as far as I'm concerned," Murray says. "It's right next to the property, or maybe even on the property, that used to belong to the founder of the park.
"Unfortunately, this seems to be a very unfortunate way to conserve or preserve his memory, having marijuana plants growing on the property of the park founder, who's basically been ignored by the NCC," Murray says.
Murray reported his find to an NCC conservation officer. The NCC says it has not been able to find the plants. But Murray says the commission has not contacted him for help with that.
