The NCC will limit the colour of buildings in the development set for the southeast section of LeBreton Flats.

According to NCC guidelines, buildings must be either brown, pumpkin, pale yellow, taupe, or grey.

Accent colours must be either purple, bright yellow, orange, or dark green.

It's just one way the National Capital Commission hopes to control the appearance of some 800 housing units, and nearby stores.

Other rules in a 49-page manual for private developers state the buildings' exteriors must be either concrete, stone, or brick.

Critics say the guidelines are overzealous in their attempt to control the look of the development.
