The Liberal candidate for Ottawa Centre is renewing calls for a major reform of the National Capital Commission.
Richard Mahoney says the head of the NCC, Marcel Beaudry, should resign. Beaudry said earlier this week that he won't do that.
Thursday morning, Mahoney went with supporters to Bank and Slater streets to hand out leaflets to passersby.
"Our goal ultimately is to make Ottawa the most livable city in North America. And the NCC can play a huge role in that," Mahoney says."But I think they'll make better decisions, and they'll do it more in our interest, if they open up their meetings and make it more democratic. So we're calling for them to function like another level of government," Mahoney says.
He says Beaudry is opposed to making the NCC a more open institution. He says reform is unlikely while Beaudry remains in charge.
