The coalition against building a golf course at Leamy Lake Park in Gatineau says the promotors of the project are on a misinformation campaign.

S.O.S. Leamy says, however, tbat the campaign will not sway people in West Quebec. It also says people on the Ottawa side of the river should watch closely what happens.

It's a beautiful, four-page spread Loto-Quebec inserted in newspapers this month that has the Coalition upset. The flyer describes the project — a hotel golf course in a National Capital Commission park — as the natural thing to do.

Denis Bachand, a communications professor at the University of Ottawa, says Loto-Quebec's rendering of the project is so bucolic even the parking lots are coloured green.

The project enjoys wide support among the powerful in West Quebec. All that remains now is to get approval from the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans and Environment Canada.

Denise Veilleux heads the S.O.S. Leamy coalition. She says people in Ottawa should watch what happens because it could become a test case for how the N.C.C. uses its land.

Loto-Quebec says it will be months before it polls residents to see whether they support the idea of a golf course at Leamy Lake.
