A family of five is now homeless after a fire destroyed their south Ottawa home just before midnight Saturday.

A family of five is now homeless after a fire destroyed their south Ottawa bungalow on Saturday.

Ottawa fire officials said a passerby reported the fire while walking his dog late Saturday night just before midnight.

Firefighters reported flames shooting from 9 Silverwood Rd. but there was nobody reported inside at the time of the fire.

Fire officials estimate there was $450,000 damage to the home and its contents.

Three adults and two children are now homeless as officials investigate the blaze.
