Some employees at The Ottawa Hospital's Civic campus say they're upset at being shut out of parking lots on hospital grounds.

Parking has long been an issue at the Civic and the neighbouring Ottawa Heart Institute, and it will soon get even tighter.

A planned extension at the Ottawa Heart Institute will cover up 200 parking spaces, some temporarily and some for good.

To make room for the extension, hospital administrators told about 300 staff members that they have to park in off-site lots less than a kilometre away from the hospital grounds.

Shuttle buses will ferry hospital workers to and from the off-site parking lots on 15- and 30-minute schedules, but some employees aren't satisfied.

The hospital, meanwhile, says its plan is already freeing up needed space for patients and visitors.
