SIU probe motorcycle crash involving Brockville police officer
Motorcycle briefly followed by Brockville police cruiser crashed in construction zone Sunday, SIU says
The provincial Special Investigations Unit is looking into serious injuries sustained by a motorcyclist who was briefly followed by a Brockville police officer over the weekend.
It happened Sunday afternoon, according to an SIU media release.
A Brockville police officer was sitting in his parked police cruiser on Abbott Street "when he noticed a motorcycle driving northbound" and "proceeded to follow the motorcycle."
The media release does not say whether the motorcyclist was engaged in any illegal activity such as speeding or swerving erratically.
The motorcyclist turned right off Abbott onto Elm Street, then onto a walking path.
The police officer later discovered that the motorcycle crashed in a construction zone. The driver was taken to Brockville Hospital for head injuries before being transferred to Kingston Hospital.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call the SIU's lead investigator at 1-888-305-1109.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports of death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault involving police.
