Ontario Provincial Police are still searching for a suspect and possible accomplices in a gas and dash scheme that has people filling up at the pump then darting before paying.
The serial gas theft has occurred at least seven times southeast of Ottawa near Hawkesbury.
Police are working with gas station owners and the public to catch the suspect.
It is unusual, according to a police spokesman, that one man is repeatedly stealing gas.
"This is an incident we see fairly often during the year, but to see a series of thefts with the same vehicle, it's the first time we've seen that," said Const. Pierre Dubois from Hawkesbury OPP.
Surveillance pictures show a blue Mazda 3 but the licence plates are removed before the thief strikes. Also, the people seen filling up the car are different and always passengers in the vehicle.
Dubois said he does not know if these people filling up are willing participants or unaware of the thefts.
"We're looking at talking to these passengers to see what's going on — if they were told the gas had already been paid," said Dubois.
Police also believe the suspect would stop once he or she realizes there is an investigation underway. But they still hope they can make an arrest.
