Business at the Rideau Centre has resumed Tuesday following a power outage that forced most of the mall's 150 stores to close on Monday afternoon.

The power went out at about 3 p.m. By 4:30 p.m., store managers were told to send their employees home because the outage would last into the night.

Power was restored to the mall overnight at about 2:40 a.m.

Some parts of the ByWard Market also experienced the outage on Monday, but power was more quickly restored there.

The longer mall outage was caused by a faulty hydro vault underneath the Rideau Centre, a spokesperson for the mall said on Tuesday morning.

It was not related to ongoing construction to renovate the mall.
