The RCMP's financial crimes unit is now investigating a failed Ottawa rent-to-own property company, CBC News has learned.

Golden Oaks Enterprises and its owner, Jean-Claude Lacasse, went bankrupt in July following a series of reports by CBC News. The company owes investors, tenants and contractors more than $27 million.

In August, the court appointed receiver investigating the company and its former owner urged the RCMP to investigate.

Receivership company Doyle Salewski is in charge of the company's properties and is trying to sell 33 properties of the 48 the company owns.
