An RCMP clandestine lab unit instigated a hazardous material investigation early Wednesday morning at the side of a road near Barrhaven.
RCMP spokeswoman Const. Lucy Shorey said only one vehicle was involved. Shorey would not say whether the RCMP or another police force pulled over the vehicle, nor why.
It took place near Brophy Drive and Highway 416, Shorey said.
Brophy Drive was closed off during the hours-long probe, which wrapped up at about 11 a.m., Ottawa police said.
Ottawa police and HAZMAT technicians from the fire department also attended the scene.
Public safety was never in jeopardy, Shorey said.
The clandestine lab unit investigates the production of drugs, including ecstasy and methamphetamine, a process which is highly toxic and can sometimes cause explosions.
The RCMP would not release more details about the Wednesday morning probe unless criminal charges are laid, Shorey said.
