Environment Canada has issued rainfall warnings for much of eastern Ontario and west Quebec.

The rain was expected to begin Saturday night across the region and continue into Sunday, with some places receiving as much as 30 millimetres of precipitation.

Warnings are in effect for many cities and communities, including:

  • Ottawa
  • Gatineau
  • Kingston
  • Smiths Falls
  • Pembroke
  • Cornwall

Kingston is also under a wind warning, with gusts expected Sunday of up to 90 kilometres an hour.

According to Environment Canada, the culprit is a low pressure system that will track across the Great Lakes on Sunday and into Quebec by Monday.

The rain is expected to taper off Sunday night, turning into snowfall in many places.
