Police search for gun linked to unsolved 2009 homicide
Mohamed Jama Ali, 26, died after a shooting at a ByWard Market nightclub
Ottawa police continue to search a park close to Beechwood Cemetery for the gun used in a fatal 2009 shooting at a ByWard Market nightclub.
Mohamed Jama Ali, 26, was shot in the abdomen in the early hours of May 7, 2009 at what was then Bar 56. Another man was also shot but survived.
Police said at the time that the shooting was likely gang-related.
The homicide remains unsolved, even though police have previously offered rewards of up to $50,000 for tips that might help solve the cold case.
On Monday, police launched a ground search of Richelieu Park, off Pères-Blancs Avenue in Vanier. A one-kilometre section of the park has been cordoned off with crime scene tape as investigators conduct a search using shovels, metal detectors and other equipment.
