Ottawa police say they are looking for a person who wrote them an anonymous letter containing information about the 2012 drive-by shooting death of Levy Kasende.

Kasende, 22, was shot while standing outside his ex-girlfriend's home at 2676 Innes Rd. in the early morning of Aug. 25, 2012.

At least two suspects inside a 2004 Mazda MPV were seen fleeing the scene after the shooting. Then just 40 minutes later, someone driving by Rockdale Road off Highway 417 near Vars, Ont., called 911 to report a grass fire.

The grass fire was actually a burning vehicle. The major crimes unit later confirmed the destroyed vehicle is part of the homicide investigation.

Major crimes investigators said Thursday they have received a letter concerning the case and say they believe the author may have key evidence in solving the crime.

They are asking the individual or anyone who knows the person to contact them at 613-236-1222, ext 5493 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS) or toll free at 1-800-222-8477.
