Police are investigating an assault that happened outside of the Shepherds of Good Hope homeless shelter earlier this morning.
The call at 256 King Edward Ave. came in at about 1 a.m.
A man believed to be in his 40s was beaten outside the shelter, police said.
"A staff [member] was outside doing a tour around, and he was able to see the beginning of the altercation," said Sheila Burnett, an executive director at the Shepherds of Good Hope.
"The staff … are shaken because it was violent. They're doing really well, we've handed it over to the police, and we trust that it'll be taken care of," Burnett said.
The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition, paramedics said.
No arrests have yet been made, and the investigation continues. Police believe more than one suspect could be involved.
