Police are asking for the public's help to identify the body of a man discovered in the Gatineau River on June 4 at a dam in Cantley, about 25 kilometres northeast of Gatineau.

MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais police say the man was white, about five feet 10 inches tall, with greying hair.

He was found wearing a dark coat with the words "Taekwondo Gatineau" sewn onto it. He was also wearing blue jeans and Converse shoes.

The victim also had a pendant of an American 50 cent piece, as well as a blue and silver ring with the inscription "MHS."

Police are also trying to determine if there's any link between the body and a red canoe recovered at the same location a month before the body was found. No one has reported the canoe lost or stolen, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 819-459-2422, ext. 3286.
