Pedestrian dead, driver charged after downtown Ottawa crash

Ottawa police have charged the man who allegedly struck a pedestrian last week near the bus station before fleeing the scene. The pedestrian has since died from his injuries, police say.

Driver, 42, ran away from scene after striking another 42-year-old man, police say

A pedestrian struck in downtown Ottawa last week has died from his injuries as the driver has been charged for failing to stop, police say.

During the evening of Aug. 12, police say a 42-year-old man was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Kent and Catherine streets near the bus station.

He suffered serious head, neck and leg injuries. Police said the man later died from his injuries in hospital.

The 42-year-old driver has been charged with failing to stop and taking a vehicle without consent. Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Police said he abandoned the car and sprinted away after the crash.
