Ottawa woman killed in Highway 17 crash
An 18-year-old northern Ontario man also killed in Friday morning crash
A young Ottawa woman and a teenager from northern Ontario have been identified as the two people killed in a crash on Highway 17 east of Chalk River Friday morning.
Meghna Atwal, 23, and William Eddy-Duma,18, died, and three others were taken to hospital with injuries, according to Ontario Provincial Police. Eddy-Duma was from St. Joseph Township near Sault Ste. Marie.
All five were in a westbound car that crossed the centre line and crashed into an eastbound transport truck just before 8:30 a.m., police said. Atwal was driving the car, police said.
The driver of the transport truck was not injured. He did not have any passengers.
The road between Fields Road and Main Street in Chalk River was shut down for most of Friday as police investigated the crash. It has since been reopened.
Chalk River is about 185 kilometres northwest of Ottawa.
