Ottawa's endless winter leaves city road budget $13M in the hole
Ottawa's road services department has a $13 million deficit in the first quarter of 2014 after a long winter of snow clearing and subsequent pothole fixes.
In a report to next week's finance and economic development committee (FEDCO) meeting posted online, city treasurer Marian Simulik said surpluses in other programs and departments reduces this deficit to $9.951 million.
As a result, Ottawa mayor Jim Watson has asked city manager Kent Kirkpatrick to review program spending, including all discretionary spending, to address financial impact of winter maintenance costs.
The FEDCO meeting to discuss Simulik's report takes place on Tuesday, May 6.
