Ottawa police have charged one of their own officers after a domestic incident.
Police say the incident happened on Saturday morning in Ottawa.
The man was charged with one count of assault and one count of careless storage of a firearm. The firearm charge relates to an unloaded police-issued gun that wasn’t stored properly, police said.
The officer’s name is not being released to protect the victim’s privacy.
The Ottawa Police Professional Standards Section is also investigating and charges could be laid under the Police Services Act.
The officer was released on a promise to appear in court.
