An employee with the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum faces 16 charges related to child pornography.

Peel Regional Police arrested the man, 59, at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport late Thursday night.

This comes after Ottawa police executed two search warrants at the man's home and office. His computers, laptops and flash drives were all seized, police say.

The man returned to Ottawa and he appeared in court Friday.

He faces nine counts of possession of child pornography and seven counts of distributing child pornography. Police are calling him a "prolific distributor."

The Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation said in a statement it is "deeply troubled by the criminal allegations."

It said it has no reason to believe visitors or employees were in danger and said it will not comment further on the investigation at this time.

Ottawa police began the investigation thanks to its role in the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet, which is run by Ontario Provincial Police.
