Sentencing for Jeffrey Latimer is scheduled for November 24. (CBC)

An Ottawa man has been found guilty of assault in an incident the victim said was over business dealings involving Graham Thomas, a man shot dead in a mall tanning salon last month.

An Ottawa judge found Jeffrey Latimer guilty of assaulting Kevin Foisy at the Merivale Mall parking lot on May 31, 2010.

Foisy said Latimer accosted him and then punched him in the eye. Foisy had said the assault came after Latimer called him and accused Foisy about lying about his share of a supplement business he ran with Thomas.

Latimer denied Foisy's interpretation of their altercation when he took the stand Thursday. But he said he lent Thomas $980,000 in 2008, which he had made from gambling, and that the money was never paid back.

Latimer will be sentenced Nov. 24.
