Friends and family gathered Sunday to celebrate an Ottawa musician who died in a construction incident this past week.

Marc Nelson, 44, died Monday at the Bank of Canada work site as a crew was demolishing a wall made of cinder blocks in the basement of the building at Bank and Wellington streets. The Ontario Ministry of Labour is investigating.

Nelson, who was also a construction worker, is well known for his folk music group, the Marc Nelson trio, which played throughout the Ottawa-Gatineau region.

A memorial was scheduled for Sunday to honour the married father of two at the Crazy Horse Bar & Grill at the Kanata Centrum.

On Friday, two of Nelson’s band mates spoke with Giacomo Panico, who was hosting CBC Radio’s All in a Day.

In his memory, friends also posted a video slide show honouring his life and created a website in his memory.

Nelson's funeral will take place Monday at St. Basil's Church on Rex Avenue, which is near Carling and Broadview avenues, at 11 a.m.
