Ottawa company charged after fatal construction mishap
An Ottawa construction company has been charged after one of its workers was killed on the job in May.
Ben Long, 50, died on May 4 after a concrete slab he was standing on collapsed and then fell on him.
Long was doing demolition and renovation work at a house on Marlborough Avenue in Sandy Hill.
Ontario's Ministry of Labour charged Hoskins Restoration Services on Albion Road with several offences under the Ontario Labour Code, including failing to ensure the worker only entered the structure being demolished in a location that would safely support the worker.
If convicted, the company could face a maximum fine of $500,000.
The site supervisor is also facing one charge.
The case goes to court on December 22nd.
