Capital Bixi bike share program will be back on Ottawa and Gatineau streets starting Sunday as the National Capital Commission launches its 2012 program today.
This is the second season for Bixi bikes in the region with 250 bikes available at 25 stations in downtown Ottawa and Gatineau. That is more than twice the number of bikes available last spring and summer.
The NCC said there were 22,000 cycling trips last year. The number of subscribers, monthly or yearly, was 173 and there were 7,400 users.
The program continues despite the resignation of the Montreal-based company's president Roger Plamondon, who blamed the provincial government in Quebec for not supporting his enterprise.
