Canadian teen golfer Brooke Henderson lost her bid to join the LPGA and compete for prize money after losing to Kristen Gillman in the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship on Sunday.
Henderson, a 16-year-old from Smiths Falls, Ont., led the match three-up with just 10 holes remaining the 36-hole final at Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, N.Y.
But she struggled in the last nine and lost five holes over the final stretch to fall to Gillman, also 16, who is from Austin, Texas.
Gillman took the lead with a birdie win on the par-five 33rd before taking the final hole with a birdie win.
Gillman, coming off an 11-stroke victory last week in the Junior PGA Championship, is set to attend the University of Alabama in 2016.
Henderson failed in her bid to become the third Canadian winner in tournament history. Marlene Stewart accomplished the feat in 1956 and Cathy Sherk did it in 1978.
This also means the teenager will have to find another means to joining the professional tour and still can't earn money for her tournament wins.
