A 43-year-old man was killed after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car on Bathgate Drive near Montreal Road in Ottawa's east end on Tuesday.

Firefighters said the collision happened just after 4:30 p.m. afternoon on Bathgate near Gulf Place, one block south of Montreal Road.

Emergency responders performed CPR on the motorcyclist before he was taken to hospital in an ambulance, but he was still without vital signs at his time of arrival at the hospital. Police confirmed the man died in a Tuesday night news release.

Police did not identify the man as they are still trying to notify his next of kin.

The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, was also treated on the scene for a hip injury and is in stable condition in hospital.

Roads surrounding the collision site were closed into the evening as investigators gathered evidence, but are now open.
