A 31-year-old man has been arrested in Montreal on a charge of attempted murder after a domestic shooting in Ottawa’s east end on Sunday.
Mitch Kalil, 31, was caught in Montreal on Wednesday evening and taken back to Ottawa for a court appearance, according to the Ottawa police guns and gangs unit.
A warrant was issued for Kalil’s arrest on Tuesday after he was accused of shooting a woman at a home in the 1000 block of Cummings Avenue.
On Sunday at around 2:20 p.m., Ottawa police officers responded to the home to find a woman with a gunshot wound to her leg, which wasn’t life threatening. More than one shot was fired from a handgun, police said.
Police considered Kalil armed and dangerous after his 2008 grey Land Rover rental was found abandoned in Ottawa soon after.
He is scheduled to appear for a show cause hearing in an Ottawa courtroom this week.
