A dog that disappeared one month ago, whose owner thought it had been shot to death, was actually hit by a train, Ontario Provincial Police said Friday.

The dog — a 10-year-old German Shepherd — was reported missing on Jan. 28.

Nearly a month later, on Feb. 25, the owner found the dog near the train tracks behind her home on Oliver Side Road.

The owner called police to say the dog appeared to have been shot twice with a rifle, an OPP release announced Thursday.

Then, on Friday, OPP sent out another release saying the dog had been hit by a train, and it hadn't been shot.
