A man found with a loaded handgun was one of 18 men arrested in a sweep of "johns" in Vanier and Centretown on Wednesday and Thursday.

Ten of the men qualified for a pre-charge diversion program including john school, police said.

The remaining eight men are now facing criminal charges including communicating for the purpose of prostitution, mischief, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act charges and more.

One of the men, a 44-year-old, was arrested in the area of Gladstone Avenue and Bell Street at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, police said.

A loaded .22-calibre handgun was seized.

The man is facing nine charges including careless use/handling/storage of a firearm, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm, possessing a loaded, regulated firearm and communicating for the purposes of prostitution.

The guns and gangs unit is continuing to investigate.
