Man suffers critical head injuries after falling on ice
Victim had been playing hockey without a helmet, was airlifted from Rideau River to hospital, paramedics say
A man in his 60s was airlifted to an Ottawa hospital after hitting his head on the ice while playing hockey with his family and friends, paramedics say.
It happened just south of the Rideau River on River Road, between Kemptville and Merrickville, at about 3 p.m. ET.
The man was not wearing a helmet, paramedics said in a media release.
He suffered critical head injuries and was taken by air ambulance to The Ottawa Hospital's Civic campus trauma unit.
