Ottawa police are investigating a two-vehicle crash on the Woodroffe Avenue overpass that killed a 70-year-old man. (CBC)

A 28-year-old man driving a black BMW was heading west along Highway 417 when he exited at Woodroffe Avenue.

While turning south onto Woodroffe, police said the driver lost control of the BMW, which hit the curb, crossed over the southbound lanes, jumped the median and then struck a beige Hyundai travelling north along Woodroffe.

The 70-year-old man driving the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 66-year-old woman in the passenger seat was taken to hospital with serious chest, abdominal and hand injuries. Paramedics said she was in stable condition when she arrived.

The 28-year-old man driving the BMW and a 22-year-old passenger were assessed by paramedics at the scene but were uninjured.

Speed appears to be a factor in the crash, police said.

Charges against the 28-year-old man are pending.
