Ottawa police have charged a 48-year-old man who they say lost control of his car and struck a truck at a gas station, sending a man to hospital who was filling up at the time.

According to police, the man charged was driving his 2011 Toyota Camry at about 9:20 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Petro-Canada gas station, located at the intersection of Greenbank and Fallowfield roads.

The driver then lost control of the Camry and veered from one set of gas pumps to the next, striking a 2001 Dodge Dakota truck. The truck was being fuelled up by its owner.

That man, 57, was then pushed into the fuel pump, which was knocked off of its foundation. No fuel was spilled, according to police.

The truck driver was sent to hospital with a hip injury but he was listed in stable condition. The two passengers in the Camry were not injured.

The driver of the Camry has been charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

Police say alcohol was not a factor and they continue to investigate.
