A 41-year-old Ottawa man is facing 12 charges after a police child-luring investigation.

The Ottawa-based investigation began after a man posted an ad on an advertising website "indicating he wanted to have a sexual encounter with a young person," an Ottawa police media release said.

A police officer posing as a 14-year-old girl engaged the man, and the man then initiated a sexual conversation.

On Oct. 12, police said, the man made arrangements to meet the officer at home for a sexual encounter.

Search warrant executed, items seized

Police then arrested the man for child luring.

A search warrant was executed and police seized several computers, cellphones and other items.

Adam Carney, 41, is charged with six counts of computer contact with a person under 16 years of age, five counts of computer contact with a person under 18 years of age for a sexual purpose, and one count of making sexually explicit material available to a child.

Carney appeared in court Oct. 13 and was released from custody. His next appearance is scheduled for Nov. 30.
