A late-winter storm could dump up to 10cm of snow on Ottawa Wednesday 2:21

The first day of spring is just around the corner but winter weather is not budging yet, with up to 25 centimetres of snow forecast in some parts of eastern Ontario on Wednesday.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for the Ottawa, Gatineau, Prescott and Russell and Smiths Falls areas, saying wet snow followed by blowing snow could start late in the morning thanks to a system moving up from Indiana.

There is a winter storm warning in effect from west of Kingston to the Cornwall area, forecasting 15 to 25 centimetres of blowing snow thanks to brisk northerly winds.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution during the storm because of poor visibility and slippery roads.
