Singer Jann Arden is accusing Via Rail of being "insensitive" after she and her pint-sized pup were ordered off a train in Oshawa on Saturday.
She complained on Twitter that her four-pound dog Midi was sleeping in a bag when Via staff "booted them off in the middle of nowhere."
Arden was on her way to Ottawa for a performance at the National Arts Centre on Sunday night.
The singer was able to rent a car to make the rest of the trip to Ottawa, but the incident unleashed a flood of online messages, some supportive, others decidedly unsympathetic.
Via Rail does not allow pets in passenger cars, with the exception of guide dogs. Animals must travel in the baggage car, even pocket-sized pooches like Arden's.
Via tweeted out a response to Arden, saying, "Hi Jann, I am very sorry for this unfortunate situation! We should have flagged this at the station before you left."
"I do hope you enjoy the rest of your trip," said another @VIA_rail tweet, which included a link to the company's pet policy.
Arden declined to be interviewed about the incident.
