Ottawa police are searching for a man who tried to rob a downtown Ottawa store with a hockey stick on Monday evening.

The man was dressed in black and wore a balaclava when he entered the Kent Street store near Laurier Avenue brandishing a hockey stick and demanding cash just after 6:30 p.m., police said.

The store owner foiled the robbery when he grabbed the hockey stick out of the suspect's hands, police said.

No one was injured.

The suspect is described as a white man, about five-foot-ten and slim.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the robbery unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 5116 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
