Pedestrian dies after being hit by truck on Highway 417
Rush-hour crash closes 2 eastbound lanes
A pedestrian has died after being hit by a tractor trailer on Highway 417 on Tuesday afternoon, police say.
A man was struck on one of the highway's eastbound lanes between the Kent Street and Metcalfe Street exits just before 4:30 p.m., OPP said.
He was unconscious when paramedics arrived, suffering from several fractures and life-threatening head and internal injuries.
He was taken to hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead, OPP said.
His age and identity have not been released.
The truck driver was not injured, OPP said.
OPP reduced the eastbound 417 to two lanes in the area of the crash during rush hour as the investigation continued. The blocked lanes were reopened at about 7:30 p.m.
The OPP investigation continues.
