OPP identify driver killed in Highway 401 crash near Gananoque

One person was killed in a Friday morning crash on Highway 401 that happened just hours after another serious crash in the same area, OPP say.

Two people are facing charges after two crashes on Highway 401 eastbound near Gananoque Friday morning, one of which was fatal.

Police have identified a driver who was killed in a crash involving two cars and a tractor trailer on Highway 401 in Kingston on Friday. 

The fatal crash was one of two collisions approximately 8 kilometres apart on the same eastbound stretch of highway.

In the second crash just before 7 a.m., John Ross Moulton, 46, of Gananoque, Ont., was pronounced dead at the scene, Ontario Provincial Police said in a media release. 

The crash happened in the eastbound lanes just west of Joyceville Road. A detour was put in place while police investigated. 

Police said Saturday that charges are pending against the driver of the tractor trailer, who was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. 

In the first crash around 1 a.m., two cars collided with a tractor trailer near mile marker 639. 

Police said a 55-year-old driver of one of the vehicles was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
