Highway 148 head-on crash leaves woman seriously injured

Police say an impaired driver crossed the centre line of Highway 148 and crashed head on with another vehicle. A 59-year-old woman suffered serious injuries.

Police reopen highway after it had remained closed for much of Thursday morning

A 59-year-old woman suffered serious injuries after a head-on crash that was allegedly the result of an impaired driver.

Quebec provincial police say the crash happened at 11 p.m. Wednesday night on Highway 148 near Fort-Coulonge, Que., about 120 kilometres northwest of Gatineau.

Police said a 48-year-old man from L’Île du Grand Calumet, Que., crossed the centre line and collided with the woman’s vehicle.

She was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries while the man suffered minor injuries. The woman's condition later improved and she is expected to survive.

Police arrested the man believing he was driving drunk. The man also refused a breathalyzer test, police say.

Hwy. 148 was closed for the police investigation but has since reopened.
