Ottawa continues to be doused with heavy rainfall even though a warning from Environment Canada was lifted on Wednesday morning.

Between 50 and 70 millimetres was expected to fall eastern Ontario over a 24-hour period.

Environment Canada says a slow-moving area of low pressure caused the continuous rainfall, which is expected to subside for a time on Wednesday.

Heavy downpours could cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

There is also a chance of a thunderstorm on Wednesday.

The rain is expected to resume on Wednesday evening and continue overnight into Thursday, with rain continuing intermittently until Saturday.
