Good Samaritan hurt in pumpkin theft dies
A man who was beaten after trying to stop two teens from stealing a pumpkin last week in Gatineau, Que., has died in hospital, police say.
The 57-year-old man and his wife were cycling by the IGA at 203 d'Aylmer Street in Gatineau's Aylmer sector last Thursday night when they spotted the teens stealing a large pumpkin from a display outside the closed store, police said.
When the man tried to intervene, one of the teens attacked him, causing serious head injuries. The Good Samaritan had been listed in critical condition in hospital for the past week.
A 19-year-old Pontiac man was charged with assault causing bodily harm. Police said those charges are now likely to be upgraded.
Police did not identify the victim or the suspect.
